INTRODUCTION
COURSE IN HYPERBARIC MEDICINE FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
14th April to 18th April 2008
OBJECTIVES
OF COURSE
1).
To provide educational experience in the fundamentals
of Hyperbaric Medicine for health professionals with an interest in
the specialty. The course will encompass the British Hyperbaric Association
Core Curriculum for hyperbaric facility staff.
2).
To conduct a voluntary formal assessment for
course participants, based on the material in the course.
3).
To award a certificate of attendance for each
course participant; and to award a certificate of success in the assessment
where possible.
GENERAL
STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE
The
course will take place in the Medical Education Centre at James Paget University Hospital, Great Yarmouth
, and in the premises of East of England Hyperbaric Facility.
Practical
sessions may be moved in case of an emergency referral.
ADMINISTRATION
Written
material will be provided for course participants for each teaching
session, to build up to form a handbook for the course.
PRACTICAL
SESSIONS
There
will be three two-hour practical sessions in and around the chambers.
These will include:-
a).
Chamber checks.
b). Chamber
operation.
c). In-chamber
attendance.
FITNESS TO WORK IN COMPRESSED
AIR
Course
participants will be asked to provide evidence of fitness to work under
compressed air conditions, before taking part in the in-chamber practical
training session.
Participation
in the in-chamber practical training session will be voluntary.
ASSESSMENT
This
will take the form of a 90 minute multiple choice question paper, taken
on the Friday.
The
paper will consist of 40 five-question stems (one for each hour of teaching).
The answer to each question may be positive or negative, with one mark
for a correct answer, and no marks for an incorrect or omitted answer.
Results
and feedback on
the paper will be provided in the later part of the friday afternoon
session.
COURSE DINNER
There
will be a dinner for all participants on the Wednesday evening in a
local restaurant.
